I started publishing scholarship under my R.B. Lemberg name in recent years - this is a new strand of work that deals with translation studies, queer and gender studies, disability studies, and SFF studies. I decided to separate these works from my sociolinguistics research because they are so much more humanities-oriented, and also flow more or less directly from my work as an author of speculative fiction. Monographs in Progress:
Two Forests in their Cold War Translations - a monograph about the Russian-English and English-Russian translations of the brothers Strugatsky’s Snail on the Slope and Ursula K. Le Guin’s The Word for World is Forest. I have done a lot of work on this book, and hope to share more about it very soon.
My Old Tongue Breaks in Two: The Poetry of Ursula K. Le Guin - an exploration of Le Guin’s poetry and small press publications. This monograph draws on the work I’ve done for Climbing Lightly Through Forests: A Poetry Anthology Honoring Ursula K. Le Guin (Aqueduct, 2021), which I co-edited with Lisa M. Bradley, as well as archival research I conducted at University of Oregon’s SCUA archives as the Le Guin Feminist Fellow. I plan to go back to the archives in early 2024.

SCHOLARLY BIO
Dr. R.B. Lemberg is a 2020 Le Guin Feminist Fellow and a scholar of SFF, LGBTQIA+ studies, and translation studies. They are a professor of Slavic, German, and Eurasian Studies and an affiliate of the Gunn Center for Science Fiction at the University of Kansas. R.B.'s literary work has been shortlisted for the 2023 Le Guin Prize for fiction, and was a finalist for the Nebula, Ignyte, Locus, World Fantasy, Le Guin Award for Fiction, and other awards. In Fall 2023, R.B. is a Hall Center for Humanities Resident Fellow working on Two Forests in their Cold War Translations, their monograph in progress on translating gender in the works of the brothers Strugatsky and Ursula K. Le Guin.
